Mixing bands for over 40 years and in good form. I've been living near Castlemaine since 2000, providing sound services for festivals and events across the Central Victorian region, including house sound mixer for the Theatre Royal Castlemaine since 2003. It's jumping with current owners Tim Heath and Felicity Cripps.
The studio has had a good run for near 20 years but it's more of a mixing/mastering room now. I've stopped recording but couldn't say no to folky Enda Kenny, he's great and he's been recording here since 2010. I'm recording the guitar/vocal in a booth in the control room. Three new DPA mics, 2 on guitar and a vocal and beautiful so far. The other tracks will be flown in and i'll mix it.
I'm increasingly involved with ARCA (Australian Road Crew Association) and their Desk Tape initiative aimed at helping roadies who need help.
Some of them are getting on, many are infirm and some have issues that haunt them. The music industry is known for highs and lows with no safety net and ARCA helps those that have fallen.
The Desk Tape Series makes available recordings originally done on cassettes from mixing consoles at live shows, especially during the 1970's - 1990's. Totally devoid of any studio trickery they provide a raw yet intimate audio view of what gets fed to the speakers at a live show. Too raw to be considered usable at the time they can now be improved with modern mastering technology to create a unique recording. I initially provided shows by TISM and MEN AT WORK from my collection and i'm helping with the transferring, Restoration and mastering of some classic Australian acts from classic Australian venues from a better time.
MIDNIGHT OIL is a recent release and the band allowed ARCA to release the recording on CD. First week it was on sale it was #1 on the independent charts and #7 ARIA charts. It's from a desk tape i made from a show at the Old Lion Hotel, Adelaide 26 March 1983.
Audio Mastering for CD or vinyl, Cassette transfer to CD. Audio re-mastering and restoration. Mastering/sweeten
ing home recordings.
Writing reviews for Audio Technology Magazine 2007 to date. Speakers, microphones and digital consoles mainly.
It's turned into www.audiotechnology.com in recent years and its bigger and better than ever in an online form.
